Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become an accredited insulation installer in Australia?
To become an accredited insulation installer in Australia, complete a nationally recognised insulation installer training course through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). EESI's Certified Insulation Installer Course covers all required units, CPCCWHS2001, CPCCOM1015, CPCCCM2012, CPCCPB3014, and EEC001, and leads to an insulation installer certificate that satisfies EEC accreditation requirements. Enrolments are currently open.
What does the insulation installer certificate course include?
EESI's insulation installer certificate covers five nationally recognised units: WHS in construction (CPCCWHS2001), measurements and calculations (CPCCOM1015), working safely at heights (CPCCCM2012), installing bulk insulation and pliable membrane products (CPCCPB3014), and insulation retrofitting in ceiling spaces (EEC001). Graduates are job-ready as certified, EEC-accredited insulation installers.
What is blower door testing and can I train in it at EESI?
Blower door testing measures the airtightness of a building by fitting a calibrated fan in a doorway, pressurising or depressurising the structure, and measuring airflow rates. It's a key tool for residential energy efficiency assessments and NCC compliance. EESI is developing a dedicated Blower Door Testing course covering equipment operation, ACH50 calculations, leakage location, and professional reporting. Register your interest to be notified when enrolments open.
What is thermal imaging training for residential properties?
Thermal imaging training teaches professionals to use infrared cameras to detect heat loss, insulation voids, moisture, and air leakage in residential buildings without destructive inspection. EESI's upcoming Thermal Imaging in Residential Properties course is designed for insulation installers, inspectors, and energy assessors wanting to offer high-value diagnostic services.
What is the difference between blower door testing and thermal imaging?
Blower door testing quantifies the overall air leakage rate of a building, how much air is escaping but not precisely where. Thermal imaging identifies the location of heat loss, insulation defects, and moisture using an infrared camera. They're highly complementary: blower door confirms there is leakage, thermal imaging pinpoints where. EESI is developing training for both.
Is EESI a registered RTO? Are qualifications nationally recognised?
Yes. The Energy Efficiency Skills Institute (EESI) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in Australia. All qualifications issued by EESI are nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and comply with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015.
What energy efficiency training courses does EESI offer?
EESI currently offers the Certified Insulation Installer Course, First Aid, and EEC Accredited Insulation Installer Refresher CPD. Coming soon: Insulation Inspectorate, Spray Foam Insulation, Blower Door Testing, and Thermal Imaging in Residential Properties. All courses are industry-built and nationally recognised.
